In early 2000, Tony left Active Duty and was looking for ways to improve his life and diversify income streams. His wife’s co-worker coincidentally had a rental property she was looking to sell. The initial visit to the property revealed it was distressed, requiring new floors, roof, paint, and many other cosmetic repairs. But the most valuable part of that visit was meeting the current tenant and hearing how unhappy they were with the management of the property. The owner confirmed she was selling because of her dissatisfaction with the property management company. Tony partnered with his father, forming an LLC to purchase his first investment property with dreams to build a brokerage of their own someday. They quickly made the renovations and placed a new resident. This process was repeated several times, and with each purchase made the consensus was the same: property management companies were not doing their jobs.
During this time, Tony continued working with the military as a civil service employee and reservist. As his coworkers became aware of his involvement in real estate, Tony became a go-to expert freely giving real estate advice to those PCSing. He regularly answered questions about renting versus buying, reviewing purchase contracts, issues with selling houses, lease disputes, and all other things real estate related.
When the market shifted, things began to deteriorate. The LLC was dissolved, and the houses were sold. This put a strain on the family and resulted in a significant loss for Tony. Despite his brokerage dream, he ended up leaving the real estate industry for about 3 years, though his co-workers continued to seek out his expertise regularly.
Eventually, he could not ignore his passion, and finally started on the journey to open his own brokerage, creating All American Realty & Investment Group.
